Specialist Endodontics
What is Endodontics, and why do I need it?
Endodontics is the speciality within Dentistry that deals with the treatment and prevention of diseases of the dental pulp and the supporting structure of the tooth. Endodontic treatment is often referred to as root canal treatment and is carried out when the nerve inside the tooth becomes inflamed or infected. The root canals within the tooth are located and cleaned out to remove all dead and infected material, and then they are filled to seal up the tooth.

What is endodontics?
Endodontics is the dental speciality focused on treating the dental pulp and root canals, commonly through root canal therapy to save infected or inflamed teeth.
When might I need root canal treatment?
If the nerve inside your tooth becomes inflamed or infected due to decay or injury, root canal treatment helps remove infection and preserve the tooth.
How is a modern endodontic assessment performed?
It starts with an examination and discussion, followed by X-rays or a 3D cone beam CT scan for detailed imaging to plan your treatment accurately.
Is root canal treatment painful?
The procedure is done under local anaesthetic and is designed to relieve pain by removing infected tissue. Most patients experience minimal discomfort.

Modern Assessment
Modern assessment has a variety of stages, beginning with discussion and visual examination. Radiographic assessment is an essential part of the process and usually involves the taking of a small cone beam CT scan to give a 3D computerised model of your jaw and reveal important anatomy and features that may be relevant in the planning of your case. In 2015, U Dentistry invested in a state-of-the-art cone beam CT scanner, allowing us to provide a complete and efficient in-house assessment experience.
